I moderate two forums lists. One is open-ended as
Meteorite-list. (no restriction on posting, but forum ethics are meticulously
detailed). When there are apparent violations by participants, the
moderator cautions the offending party off -line. If the caution is
ignored he/she is shifted to the 2nd forum which is restricted (reviewed and
posted at the discretion of the moderator). This latter option
occurs most often when complaints such as has occurred on this list become
acute. For certain, however, when rules of dialogue are posted and reiterated
periodically, the forum(s) enjoys the enlightening exchanges and
seldom suffer loss of membership.
