Tschermak (1872b) described the Shergotty meteorite as a variety
of eucrite in which the plagioclase is represented by maskelynite.
Brezina (1904) elevated it to a distinct type named shergottite.
However, the utility of such a distinction is not obvious, and
Shergotty and the only other meteorite of this type, Padvarnikai,
are here classed as eucrites.
