(Stuart Perry to Harvey Nininger letter, Perry's File copy) January 4, 1951
Dear Nininger: Your letter of December 18 came while we were in the midst of preparations to come here, and I have been unable to get at my correspondence until now. I am very sorry, but I feel that I do not want to go in on the South American expedition. It is just a case of money. As I wrote you in December, we have (like many other papers) a newsprint problem that is serious, shortages of help, necessitating new labor-saving equipment -- further complicate the outlook. And finally taxes in 1951 will take probably a much heavier bite out of earnings. So altogether I cannot at this time make a promise. I sent the little iron globules to another man -- A.W. Herbenar, my former assistant -- who is going to make some more photos and try another etch. He worked with me on perhaps 75 irons and knows more about them than anyone else I know. I also want him to look at the Peru photos. As soon as I hear from him I will write you. With all good wishes for the new year, Sincerely, (Stuart Perry - name is missing as this is the file copy. The original sent to Nininger would have been signed by Perry) |
