Hello and thanks for sharing the interesting article. Converting rods to feet, we end up with a object over 700 feet in length. It seems improbable that an object that size and with the composition indicated could remain intact after striking the earth. I certainly wouldn't say absolutely not, but it seems a bit suspicious to me.
