Dear Frank, List;
We must be ever mindful to remember to factor in the Ninninger "enlightenment" factor. H.H. did unmeasurable work to promote meteorite education in the western states of Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska. If I recall correctly, there are over 300 meteorites associated with his work. Mark or Fred could correct me..
Best,
Dave F.
Posessor of # 13 from the great state of Wyoming

The size of the state (country, county, continent, etc.) is only one
factor in how many meteorites are likely to be found there. Other factors
include geography (flat, mountains), climate (dry, wet), land use (forest,
farming), population (a few people per square mile, high population
density), etc. These differences will also contribute to the ratios of
falls to finds, etc.
Below is a quick count from the latest Catalog of Meteorites (5th
ed.). This data is about 5 years old now, but is handy.

Alabama -- 17
Alaska -- 3
Arizona -- 35
Arkansas -- 14
California -- 45
Colorado -- 73
Connecticut -- 4
Florida -- 4
Georgia -- 22
Hawaii -- 2
Idaho -- 6
Illinois -- 7
Indiana -- 12
Iowa -- 7
Kansas -- 133
Kentucky -- 26
Maine -- 5
Maryland -- 4
Massachusetts -- 1
Michigan -- 9
Minnesota -- 8
Mississippi -- 3
Missouri -- 20
Montana -- 5
Nebraska -- 46
Nevada -- 8
New Jersey -- 1
New Mexico -- 203
New York -- 11
North Carolina -- 29
North Dakota -- 10
Ohio -- 11
Oklahoma -- 37
Oregon -- 4
Pennsylvania -- 8
South Carolina -- 6
South Dakota -- 13
Tennessee -- 25
Texas -- 278
Utah -- 15
Virginia -- 12
Washington -- 6
West Virginia -- 3
Wisconsin -- 12
Wyoming -- 12

This is supposed to total 1214 meteorites, though I could have missed one or
two between the states. More have been found since 1999 of course,
particularly in the desert southwest.
