Re: DARWIN, Australia - An unmapped meteorite crater has been discovered in an uninhabited stretch on the edge of Arnhem Land.
The crater, about 100 feet in diameter, was found by Capt. Harry Moss, a pilot flying air ambulances for the government.

You are correct, sorry about that not sure how I could forget Tasmania. It appears the article is referring to Wolfe Creek crater, aka Wolf Creek. This crater was discovered by air in 1947. It probley just took till 1950 or thereabouts to confirm the crater's origin.
