I saw a PBS documentary a few weeks back on searches for 1st centuary artifacts in caves around Jerusalem. They were using a tool that I hadn't heard of before, measuring electrical resistance of the surface to try to determine what was below it. Just did a bit of googling, and the system is called "electrical resistivity tomography".
