COLORADO PROBES 'METEOR' EXPLOSION
DENVER, Dec. 21. - (AP) - Northern Colorado's mystery explosion may
have been caused by a meteorite fall similar to that which startled a
funeral party near Johnstown, Colo., in 1924.
A rumbling noise was hard about 2:30 pm. yesterday at Fort Collins,
Greeley, Loveland and Platteville, all within 30 miles of Johnstown, where
30 meteorite fragments fell July 6, 1924. Source of the noise could not be
traced.
Dr. H. H. Nininger, meteor expert of the Colorado Museum of Natural
History, said the noise "might well have been made by a fall of meteorites."
He said it was odd, however, that no one reported seeing a "puff of smoke"
or "fire streak" in the sky preceding the noise.
