I might as well chime in on this one too -
I only recived a few emails off list on this subject - three to be exact.
all highly supportive of the effort i was making to provide the best
possible information to collectors.
aparently the one thing that alot of collectors do not like is to buy
something that is advertised as being ultra rare and only later finding out
that it wasnt as exclusive as they were lead to belive.
As an example - when I bought the EL7 in tucson I was lead to belive that I
had purchased nearly all of the material save for a few hundred grams each
owned by Matteo and Adam Hupe. I described the material as such in my
auctions and when some more of the stuff came out onto the market through
other channels one person who bought some previously on ebay wrote me a note
saying that he was less than happy about the situation finding out that more
of the material was avalible than originally though. I explained the history
of my purchase of the enstatite material and that seemed to satisfy the
concerns of the buyer in question. I imagine similar sentiments have been
felt by collectors thanks to all of the unique number NWA CO3s from a few
years back - or more recently from the NWA pallasite that sold out with a
TKW of a few hundred grams only for 5 more kgs to come out ont he market
shortly thereafter (or so, dont recall specific weights off the top of my
head). In this regard it deosnt really matter if the seller in question is
knowingly misrepresenting the material with a lower than real TKW - it just
leaves a bad taste in the mouth of a buyer to see the TKW go up and the
value go down of something that is bought early in on the game.
However I think the strongest evidence can be seen when buyers speak with
their wallets. The gram sized slice of my new angrite I recently sold on
ebay resulted in a final price of 200$/g - a fair margain over that of the
price per gram nwa 2999 has sold for recently even in smaller peices. This
could ahve several explainations: A) it's a fluke B) buyers didnt buy my
belief that these rocks are likely paired and figured they were buying a
new, unique angrite of low TKW or C) buyers apreciated being provided with
as much information as possible. I have less than 5g of this stuff left to
sell so i doubt I'll be able to establish any long term trends for it with
such a small smaple - but taken at face value I think the numbers do say
something.

Hello Everyone,
I took a poll a few days again regarding the latest "discussion" between
dealers. I asked individuals to email me in private, letting me know their
feelings on such exchanges. I said that I would aggregate the data and not
post private email.
Well, I received exactly eight private responses. Four were for against
such exchanges and four were against such exchanges. What can we conclude
from this?
Nothing. The sample size is much too small to make a meaningful
conclusion.
I had thought of posting a direct quote from one person since I found it
opinion so interesting (I have his permission), but I decided against it
since I did not receive a similar but opposing post espousing the opposite
point-of-view and in the interest of fairness it would not have been
appropriate.
