Hi All, Very interresting discussion. However, I think we may be discussion the wrong terms in this debate. To wit;
Dictionary.com defines the two words, Fusion and Crust as: Fusion: 1. the act or process of fusing; the state of being fused. 2. that which is fused; the result of fusing Crust: 5. any more or less hard external covering or coating. 12. to cover with or as with a crust; encrust. I removed any references having to do with slang, food or other non-related types of crust for the sake of clarity. I think we can all agree that fusion occurs on the surface of any meteorite entering Earth's atmosphere. It is the term 'Crust' that seems to be under discussion here. The above definitions of 'Crust' can both be used to describe what is on the surface of afreshly-fallen iron meteorite. Thus we have a 'Fusion Crust' on freshly fallen irons.
