Hi there,

Peekskill was admittedly a poor example; I chose Peekskill solely to make a little joke about the former New York governor's hometown; there are many common chondrites which can nicely illustrate the point I was attempting to make.

Unlike most who have weighed-in, I do not believe the cost of the recovery should closely correlate with the value of the meteorite. I mean, what if there were supersaver flights to Columbia that week--is the meteorite worth less? I also do not believe such anomalies are healthy or positive for our beloved hobby/vocation. I know several wealthy individuals who were prospective meteorite collectors--with an intent to be SERIOUS collectors--who ran the other way as a result of what THEY termed the "immaturity" of the meteorite marketplace.

Mike B, Valera was indeed one of the all-time great deals, and it's unfortunate this meteorite's rightful legacy was sullied by professional jealousies. Separately, I'm confident you didn't mean to imply that opinions regarding valuations are predicated on "I scratch your back; you scratch mine." In any event, it was truly not my intention to take a personal shot at you, and I apologize if I went too far. It's just that I respectfully disagree with your advocacy of expensive anomalies; I think your role as an author regarding market trends while being proactive in the marketing of such anomalies can create problematic misperceptions.

All best I hope everyone sees a great show tonight.

Sincerely,
Darryl

That being said, as for you, Darryl Pitt, it is beyond me
Why you would, unprovoked, snipe at me, especially since I have
Effusively praised YOUR Valera as an all time buy in the world
Of hammers. However, again, this is not the forum to discuss
Whatever resentments you hold toward me as implied by
Your comment, and I encourage you to contact me directly off
list rather than take pot shots here.
As for the collectors who are interested in Cali, you can
Decide what is worth what. I will not be selling it cheaper than
$4,000/g and will be happy to keep what little was obtainable
For myself if no one wants any. If they do, that will be dandy,
Too. The finders literally risked their lives to get it, less than 300
Grams total exists and only a very few grams are still available
To the collecting public.
Of course, you could always let Darryl Pitt and the European
Malcontent tell you what meteorites are worth, but personally I
Have always held they are worth what people are willing to pay -
And I was willing to pay a lot for Cali and I do not regret it. Those
Who feel the same are welcome to some and those who don't
Are welcome to do without.
        Best wishes, Michael

Michael Blood, come on man! You need to clean your
ears or take notes when you buy things. You called
Robert Ward day and night, and did everything under
the sun to buy pieces of Cali. Against my advice, he
sold all to you except the two fragments everyone saw
on ebay. You even bought the second ebay piece, for
much more than it sold for because you were trying not
to to bid until the last second and then could not bid

(always a risky move to try and play). You pushed him
to sell to you, and you made a price off which he
accepted. Who is to blame for he price YOU offered?
Hmmmm, you are my friend.
Now, the fact that I got a call and was lied to, and
flew back to Colombia for the #1 stone is not my
fault, or Roberts fault, it is just a fact. So when I
brought that stone home, you wanted a piece of that,
which you got. And I told you that another piece had
been sold. That the buyer decided to cut it up and and
sell, well it is the American way, to do as you please
with what you own. It is not my problem, or under my
control, so please DO NOT come on this list and
pretend that you were forced into buying something,
and made promises that you would be the only dealer
selling. If you think that is the case, then send my
pieces back, and every penny will be refunded upon my
return to the USA. Somehow at the price you paid, I
don't think you will want to do that.

Hi Mike,
        Congratulations. Apparently, though I was

told I was the

Only dealer that would be offering this material

as ALL the

Rest was in the form of individual or whole

specimens in private

Collections, yet, it appears you also managed to

get some for resale.

This will is a good thing for the

collecting community and

will
Make a reasonable number of pieces available to a

number of

collectors, as I will be offering both Cali "#1"

and "#2" in a

similar size
range and also at $4,000/g (which is what I had to

pay for my first

Purchase Of this delightful fall). I will announce

when photos are

up on my Hammer page later this weekend.
With what you are offering and what I am

offering there still

won't be enough to meet the demand, but at least a

few dozen

Collectors will be able to get some instead of

half a dozen.

        Best wishes, Michael
