Tracy, what you saw couldn't have been the satellite. Impact was out over the Pacific. Oh, wait a minute! You're in Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subject: [meteorite-list] Blowed-up satellite

I went outside to try to see the end of the lunar eclipse last night about 7:00 HST. There was one big cloud bank (of course) right over top of the moon, but as I was scanning about, I saw a very bright fast moving object zipping across the sky almost due up. I believe it was the remnants of the target satellite, which had been reduced to an expanding cloud of junk by that time. It was easily the magnitude of Sirius, and faded out within 5-10 seconds of my spotting it, as it entered the Earth's shadow again.
