Now that more and more of the Full Moon's brightly illuminated disk is reappearing, the Earth's shadow once again looks much darker than during mid-eclipse. This seems to be because of the increasing, stark contrast between the illuminated and the eclipsed part of the Moon and shows how easily the human eye can be deceived.
