Hi Mike,

Bernd is correct (as usual). Alain and his son, Louis, have indeed been to Tatahouine on multiple occasions---and returned with the spoils of exceedingly successful efforts.

Hi MikeG and List,

1) According to an article and an abstract in MAPS, the Tatahouine
strewnfield was revisited in 1994 and samples were collected:

BARRAT J.A. et al. (1999) The Tatahouine diogenite: Mineralogical and chemical effects of sixty-three years of terrestrial residence (MAPS 34-1, 1999, 091-097).

BARRAT J.A. et al. (1999) Mineralogical, chemical and biological effects of 63 years of terrestrial residence in the Tatahouine meteorite (MAPS 34-4, 1999, A010).

2) As far as I remember, Alain Carion also re-hunted the Tatahouine strewnfield.
Anne Black may have more about that or maybe Alain Carion himself.

Best Sunday wishes,

Bernd

Hi List,

I'm curious about something.... we hear frequently from people who
hunt (and re-hunt) the Franconia, Gold Basin, and other western
US strewnfields. But we never hear anything about people hunting
the old African strewnfields like Tatahouine. Since Tata is one of
those singularly-exceptional meteorites, there seems to be some
incentive for those with the means and churchbells to re-hunt it.
If nobody is hunting Tata, is it because Tunisia is not safe enough?
Compared to Algeria which sits right next door, Tunisia is
considered a relatively-moderate Sunni Arab state. I know it's
probably considered risky or remote compared to Morocco, so maybe
this is why nobody is looking.

Best regards,

MikeG
