out of curiousity: as you were previously talking about radio carbon dating, do 
you pull that "17 February" from the data provided by Cassidy et al (1972, 
1996)? 

Their radio carbon dating of charcoal fragments extracted from the bottom of 
one of the craters gave an age of "~ 4,000 B.P." - one tends to interpret this 
figure rather as an approximation ...
