The miniature in question and many other such
depictions can be found on this website:
http://zombietime.com/mohammed_image_archive/islamic_mo_full/
The larger scale detail photos demonstrate the
truly exquisite skill and beauty of these miniatures.
At least one of the images is as recent as the
19th century, although the range of the images
goes back to the earliest Islamic times.

Hello all,
as far as I know the iconological context of this scene is the
destruction
of all idols which Mohammed found at this place, the Kaaba. Idol
(eidolon)
means: image in the sense of portrayal. The Black Stone, Haschr
al-Aswad
(Hi, Svend ;-), in contrary, was not an idol, it was an i c o n : not
imitation: representation, or better: realisation.
In the case of the 14th cent. miniature from the JĀMEʿ al-TAWĀRIḴ:
the
depiction of the Prophet isn't such unusual, Martin, as it is Persian
art -
in medieval times far more liberal and free as, alas!, today.
The carpet on the early miniature from the JĀMEʿ al-TAWĀRIḴ with this
typical synthesis of plantal and geometrical ornaments, carrying the
Black
Stone, seems to be a work of the Silk Road, most probably region of
Kashgar.
Best Regards,
Matthias

in the manuscript ordered by Ottoman Murad III. 1595.
(Volumes in Topkapi museum, New York & Dublin).

BTW: This painting is called 'Mohammed at the Kaaba'
It's a painting from the History of the World (JĀMEʿ al-TAWĀRIḴ)
by Rašid-al-Din from Tabriz, Persia
from the Edinburgh manuscript, which is dated at 1307.
