"Screwy" perhaps, but no one has yet to refute his hypothesis in a credible way. While I think that he might be a bit extreme on some subjects no one can deny that his work has been rigorously scrutinised, and, so far, stands up to that scrutiny.

Apart from that, the Astrobiology Centre has conducted a lot of world class research, and has been published in many peer-reviewed publications. It has also sent the occasional ripple through the establishment - and that is how science is done.
