"Was the previous classification a L4-6 regolith breccia, or just L4-6?"

It was classified as an L4–6 fragmental breccia.

In 2008, there was a paper by the same author but different co-authors
and then already, these authors proposed NWA 869 should be called
an L3-6 regolith breccia. See here:

Science XXXIX, 2008, 1120.pdf).

In the 2011 MAPS article the authors point out that the variability of olivine 
compositions ranges from Fa0 to Fa50 and that of low-Ca pyroxenes from
Fs0 to Fs35 to justify their proposal to reclassify this desert beauty.
