Hi Iain,

All the observations that are both in the observation file 
(http://documentation.wikia.com/wiki/Input_observation_%28METRo%29#Observations)
 
and the atmospheric forecast file 
(http://documentation.wikia.com/wiki/Input_forecast_%28METRo%29#Forecast) 
are combine.

The fields are:
*Air temperature;
*Dew point
*Wind speed;
*Quantity of precipitation

Look for the method with "__combine"
