I think the answer to that depends on how much of the current blog
functionality you want and how much you want to change.  If you just want
to add the 8 fields, and leave everything else the same I would use field
injection.  If you want 8 new fields and significantly different
functionality (that would require changing the blog post views) I would
create a custom app.
