Ryan is correct; suffer through to truth. I suggest http://effectivedjango.com/tutorial/getting-started.html as a guide for coming to grips with virtualenvs and isolation.
For deeper isolation and closer dev-prod parity, I use Vagrant to manage virtual machines. You can try my admittedly long-in-the-tooth writeup ostensibly about deploying Vagrant, though this is the pattern I use for all development now: http://bscientific.org/blog/mezzanine-fabric-git-vagrant-joy/. Though my article pre-dates it, my use of Vagrant has grown based on http://nerds.airbnb.com/testing-at-airbnb/. My current project uses webkit, and I have not had the fortitude to get it built locally. Vagrant has allowed me to get the application to run "locally" (sort of) and start putting that webkit code under test. I hope these help as much or more than all of our encouragement. best, ken On Mon, Aug 4, 2014 at 8:43 AM, Stevo <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Ken, I think you got that right, coz when I tried again my error was > different: > > File > "/home/hobbo5424/mezzcart/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/django/conf/__init__.py", > line 47, in _setup > % (desc, ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLE)) > django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: Requested setting > INSTALLED_APPS, but settings are not configured.
