This not a mezzanine specific solution/suggestion, but you might look at chatroll: http://chatroll.com/ (Not affiliated and not intended to promote, I just am aware of it from another site that uses it. Aside: I'd also be interested to know of a mezzanine/django specific solution in this vein...)
