I looked into stripe integration a few weeks ago and I did conclude that it would make most sense to start integrating from scratch with dj-stripe than to try to use cartridge-stripe, mostly because the latter depends on django-zebra which itself doesn't seem so well maintained.
While stripe has a been my go-to payment processor in the past I'm probably going to end up going with braintree since it seems fairly equivalent and the integration is pretty well complete.
