You are getting "DOS mode" confused with a command window. 2000 is the upgrade to NT4, not Win9x. NT never did have a "DOS mode" and FFM works much better with NT4 as opposed to Win9x. The same can be said for any of the other modules that have some users convinced that DOS is required. I have been running the complete FFM and Pmill packages under NT for a few years now and I have not had any problems with the lack of a "DOS mode." If you want to check it out, do a search in NT for any of the required DOS files. Odds are you will come up short a few files and the ones you do find are related to the old DOS files in name, not function. So odds are good that Smartcam will continue to function with 2000 or Millenium, as long as the programmers didn't violate any of the rules which Microsoft layed down many years ago. I would find that as being highly unlikely.
Now on the other hand, Win9x does have a "DOS mode." To get there you either have to reboot into MS-DOS from the shutdown menu, be quick with the F8 key on startup, or get a copy of TweakUI. Either way you will end up with a true DOS mode which is very useful if you want to run software which fails to run in Win9x because the programmers were sloppy, which was very common back in the days of DOS, especially among game programmers.
