Hello,
Are there some "ideal" and generic IGES export settings for Pro/Engineer
that create files that are truly useable by SmartCAM and/or other Computer
Aided Manufacturing systems? What are your experiences with Pro/Engineer
IGES files?
I hope you may be able to point me in the right direction. I am trying to
find ways to export Pro/Engineer files in an IGES format that is useable to
a variety of CAM systems. The Design side of our company uses Pro/E for
new product designs. On the manufacturing side we use a couple of CAM
systems to create CNC programs for our machines. Primarily we use SmartCAM
V9x - V11x. The shops we sub contract to may use any number of other CAM
systems like MasterCAM, Unigraphics, DP Esprit, NCL and so on.
The problems we have been seeing include:
multiple entities and surfaces
garbage around the origin point like the axis lines, unnecessary
planes, etc
excessive construction geometry like surfaces used to create model
surfaces but having no further use for drafting or manufacturing
To manufacture our parts all of this junk geometry needs to be removed and
manipulated by the CNC programmer which could result in moving away from
the original design intent.
