1) AutoCAD 2000 will "save as" R12 dxf. I have had absolutely NO problems
using these files in my translating to SmartCAM, though it should be noted
that I only use Production Milling.
2) I run AutoCAD R14 and 2000 on the same computer with no problems.
3) I'm not a big AutoCAD user, but it seems to have a nicer overall GUI.
For example, in R14 you had to "Export" to save as a previous version. In
2000, you just do a "save as". I'll defer to others who are more
knowledgeable to delve into the advantages of version 2000.
It should also be noted that Autodesk has a tendency to eliminate "save as"
versions as they release the next version of AutoCAD (AutoCAD 2000 already
cannot save as a R12 dwg). It is very possible that we will lose the
ability to save as R12 dxf in the next rendition of AutoCAD.

10/05/00 Questions...
07:53 AM
I realize that a majority of these questions have probably already been
posted to this forum, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to
reiterate their knowledge.
1) Are there any issues with saving dwg or dxf files in R12 format for
import/export to SmartCAM?
2) Is it possible to keep current installations of AutoCAD with AutoCAD
2000?
3) What are the biggest advantages to AutoCAD 2000?
Thanks in advance, for any info that may be provided.
Regards,
