As for question one, I don't know
As for question two, No, copying your hard drive will not work because
smartcam uses the hard drive to create the identifying number for the
license number.  Your best bet would be to contact SDRC and request a temp
code to do your set up, and then once it is up and working, fax in your new
request for a permanent code.  The other option is to pay the $100 or so and
get the hardware lock option so that no matter which computer you put it on,
you can move the dongle and it will work fine.
