i'll give it a try, thanks. bob -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Jeff Brower Sent: Monday, November 27, 2000 6:04 PM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: [mfg-smartcam] RE: Understanding the Helix... comp always works for me!
Comp has always worked on a helix (for me!). SmartCam will not allow me to *construct* a helix with comp, but if I group the helix then Edit_PropertyChange_Toolpath and change the offset of the helix it works fine. Check the ElementData of a helix, there is a field for Offset!!! Remember that a helix is an 2 axis arc with a 3rd axis linear, so it shouln't be a big deal to use comp with a helix. There could be a problem if the control doesn't support a helix with comp. Only draw back is that show path doesn't show the comp on ANY profile that has a helix in it. -----Original Message----- From: David Wolfgang [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, November 27, 2000 5:56 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 'Michael Senack'; '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: Re: [mfg-smartcam] Understanding the Helix Bob Looney is correct SmartCam will not allow comp on a helix. You should program the helix tool to its center and not the dia. After the helix is programmed I add a lead in to the start of the helix with cutter comp. to the left or right depending on which way the cutter is going. It must be a diagonal move so both x and y are compensated before the helix. And again at the end with cutter comp off. This has always worked for me.
