We use Pro/E as our CAD package. Thus it only seemed logical to look at Pro/Manufacture as a replacement to the defunted SmartCAM.
We had a demo guy come in and show us Pro/Man. For the most part the demo was informative and answered some of our questions. The demo guy made it clear that his forte was milling as he did one week training courses in milling with Pro/Man. No lathe, wire or laser knowledge. So we gave him a typical mill job that encompasses most of our requirements and a typical wire job. The mill job is for a Bostomatic with the indexing head and the wire job is for the Agie wire machine. We choose those controls as they're not your run of the mill controls. We said we would like you to take the "electronic" data that we would supply, the prints and make us a program for each part. Bring the programs in and we'll load them into the machines and make the parts. Basically speaking, we wanted to see if Pro/Manufacture can do the job. Lets see...that was the beginning of Nov 2000 and now its Jan 4,2001 and nothing! No programs!
