Hey all you Cast Iron Guru's,
I am machining a feed table with
dove tails for a small milling machine manf, and I have a quick question.
I am cutting only on one side of this gray iron beast, taking about 1/4" off the
top, plus another 3/8" step down to the bottom of the dove tails, plus cutting
the dovetails. All in one setup. I have the casting clamped down to
the table top of the mill. The part is 22 inches long, and the dove tail
is about 3" wide, 60 deg standard.
OK, now to the question, I know
if I was cutting steel bar, it would warp like a mother....., but I have never
cut this long a piece of cast. Will it bow? I know cast is supposed
to be very stable, but..... I worry.
Thanks for your input
