As far as the editing going on in the shop, it is strictly monitored, and only speeds and feeds are edited based on the HP, RPM, and rigidity of the different machines tools

All geommetry edits are prohibited at the machine.  Those are handled by me, by re-coding in SmartCAM.  All tooling and setup changes made on the shop floor are documented during the run, and updated when the program is downloaded.  We have a full time machinist that does nothing but maintain programs and documentation in the shop, and takes care of backups.

I strive to provide a 100% accurate program, and what I feel is the correct surface footage and chip loads for all tools.  As far as I am concerned, my Process models are correct as far as geommetry and method, and I do update them and recode in the case of blueprint revisions.  Close enough is never good enough for any of us....  ( most programmers, including myself, are some picky SOB's.... lol)

Our policies work very well in this shop, however every shop is different, and have different skill levels.  It sounds like we are all on the right track... as far as maintaining our models and code.... methods may vary, but the level of perfection is there, overseen of course, by the programmer.
