A few of years ago I was on team to choose the CAD/CAM software we were going to
commit to for the future. Engineering chose ProE and put a lot of pressure on
Manufacturing to chose ProM. We looked real hard at ProM and it was just not
up to the job so we stayed with SmartCAM, NCL and DP Esprit for the NC
programming. Last I looked at ProM it is still not flexible or easy enough to
use to impress me.

One thing I do know for a fact, if ProE is not implemented correctly it can be
very troublesome. For example, we use a lot of macros to program our parts and
we have tried in vain to rely on IGES files but, because we have implemented
ProE without any apparent standards, it has been a nightmare. ProE has been
great for what it does on the engineering side of the house but down stream it
has created a lot of extra work. This especially true if you are going to use
ProM for NC Programming. If the design was not created with manufacturing in
mind, you will probably have to re-create the design in ProE before you can
program it in ProM

If you can not commit to appropriate, structured implementation, expect
problems.
