You do not have any PCB file identified in the [UserMenu] section of your
aturn.ini file. PCB files can be created or existing ones modified using the
Visual Custom Toolkit (CTK) to launch macros. The User Elements and Machine
Events tool boxes are examples of panels created by the CTK. The CTK was an
extra cost item until v11.0. It does not install with any application and
must be installed separately from the SmartCAM v11 CD.

>From page 23 of the SmartCAM Customization Guide:

[UserMenu] These settings activate a User menu on the menu bar. The User
menu displays user-defined toolboxes for use in the application. If no items
are specified in this section, the User menu does not appear.

The settings are paired into MenuName# and MenuPcb# entries, beginning with
1. Each pair specifies a toolbox entry.

MenuName# specifies the name that is displayed in the User menu for that
toolbox. An ampersand (&) is used to prefix the letter that should be used
for the menu selection key. This key is underlined in the menu when the menu
is displayed. The system will not prevent the same key from being used more
than once, so be sure that all MenuName# settings are unique.

MenuPcb# specifies the content of the toolbox (in a PCB file) that is built
using the Visual Customization Toolkit.

A sample entry pair could be:

  MenuName1=My &Tbx1
  MenuPcb1=path/file1.pcb

All items must be specified in contiguous numerical order (1,2,3,4). If a
number is skipped, no further menu entries will appear on the menu after the
missing number. If a PCB file is missing or does not load, the menu item is
dimmed and the warning "Could not find or load pcbfile. Toolbox toolboxname
is not available" is displayed.

When creating custom panel files (*.PCB), make sure you use a unique
filename for the PCB file. SmartCAM will use the first PCB file with a
matching name, regardless of path information associated with the customer
control panel file.

In the Examples.doc( How to use ARE) the last one is:

In all SmartCAM applications:

The "User" menu for custom toolboxes, located on the upper menu bar between
Process and Macro, has been renamed the "High Steel" menu. This is to make
it obvious that the contents have been specifically designed and created for
use by High Steel.

I am running v11.1 Advanced Turning
My upper menu bar has:
File Edit Create View Utility Workplane Process Macro Help

How come I don't have this option ( User)?

There is a help file and some documentation from CAMAX/SDRC included with
the download. I also included a quick start guide that I wrote. Basically
you need to decide what text you want to change in the user interface, then
search and replace those using the ARE's Edit - String function. You may
then need to alter the size and locations of some of the input fields, drop
down boxes, radio buttons, etc... to accommodate the new strings using the
Edit - Panels function.

Thanks much for the info. I found and downloaded it and the example file.
Looks like good stuff. Where can I find out how to use it to do the same
sort of things?

Thanks again,
