People tend to have the problem of SC locking up when upgrading to W2K, particularly when trying to "Keep Defaults."
The problem is a driver conflict. What we did, on the advice of others here in the group, was uninstall Win2K then reinstall in with no drivers. This fixed the problem and I reinstalled the drivers one at a time over the next few weeks until I had just what I needed and no more.
I never had the locking up problem again.
