MRS. or who it concerns,
This is very good news. In time's of all product's advancing ie; CAD/CAM packages it
is nice to see someone stepping in and taking over a proven product (SmartCAM) that
has been mainly kept going by the people that use it. If it wasn't for this user group
I probably would have given up on SC a long time ago. I sent an e-mail out a while
back asking the group what a good alternative would be to SC to be more compatible
with newer CAD software where were using solid's and such. Although I would never get
rid of SC I got answer's like Master Cam, Esprit, etc. and we finally semi decided on
Esprit, but to date we have not yet bought any other software for programming but we
are looking to do something in the very near future. I would be more than happy and
thrilled to stay with SC if it were brought to a modern operating system to keep up
with the current market.
We have just over 7000 working files going and that does not include programs for
making tooling and misc. program's.
I would be more than happy to give any help, Idea's, or comment's as I am sure the
group would also to make this happen.
I think many thanks should go out to this SC group of people for all there effort's
and for nothing being asked for in return, but to help your fellow programmer out.
My hope's are high that this all work's out and that we can get an up to date
SmartCam going again.
Long Live SmartCam.

Hello all,

Yes, it's true. SmartCAM rises from the dark!

We have some systems in place, but your responses will dictate what we do
next. Certainly among the list toppers will be to rebuild to the new
operating systems and clear up the annoyances that have cropped up since
1998.

The development and support structure is mostly in place, but again, it's
direction will be influenced by your reaction. We think that fixing low risk
bugs will be a good plan for early releases, and fit in as a by product of
longer range development.

We are also taking over licensing (we're taking it all over, soon). Please
keep in mind that EDS has been able to do this in the past, gratis, due to
their size, staff and bankroll. We do not have this luxury so there will be
administrative cost involved. It will be nominal, and based on your
preferred method of transaction - electronically being the least expensive.

I am extremely excited about this opportunity, and can't wait to get this
rolling. Michael said once that he'll "drive her until the wheels fall off".
We have new tires for that hot rod!

John Gent
