The resource you need to know about is umask.  You use it
on the command line.  For reference you should read the
man file that you get by requesting

Un*x> man umask

at your shell prompt.

The 'umask' value is a _mask_; it is the _complement_ of
the permissions you want to leave the file(s) with.
