Hi Folks,

Not a very exciting answer. But the upshot of it all was that the
latest version on the emacspeak driver for the ttsynth (outloud) text
to speech software supports ALSA and the current version of ALSA
Xubuntu 7.04 uses the mixer by default. Between the two, all is
working.

I now have a script that I run when I bring up the headset that links
in a .asoundrc file which specifies the default alsa device to be the
mixer attached to the hardware device that is the bluetooth headset.
When not using the headset I remove the link and the default device is
the mixer attached to the primary hardware audio device.

So far so good.

I also found (as reported in a previous post) how to avoid giving the
pin code each time I bring up the headset. I am having intermittent
success with command line paring and I am still working on that aspect
of the problem, but the alsa part is working very well now.

The most helpfull site was without question the alsa wiki mentioned in
my earlyer post, in addition I had found a page on the particular
headset I had, here they both are:

Thanks,

-Greg
