John, As suggested NX is probably the best solution, but if that does not work for you, you could try x11vnc with the -clip, -id or -sid options.
With x11vnc, a vncviewer at work and ssh you could ssh into your home machine, launch x11vnc on your home machine and then display that screen on your machine at work. With -clip, -id or -sid option to x11vnc you can export only the region of your screen or window with pidgin. (Unless pidgin opens other windows when it runs, I don't use it so I don't know. If it does you might just want to export the a large chunk of the display, or -sid may do the trick, you'll need to play a bit to find out.) The x11vnc man page gives an example on how to do the ssh tunnel, but you will want to go over that man page as there are many options that if used properly can take a lot of the headaches out of the procedure. -Greg -- Greg Priest-Dorman [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) MHVLS Auditorium Feb 6 - DBUS Mar 5 - Setting up a platform-independent home/small office network using Linux
