I've posted the materials from the Linux 2.6 talk from Wednesday at two
locations:
   http://mhvlug.org/MonthlyMeetings/2008/04
   ftp://ftp.coredump.us/kernel-talk_04-02-2008

A couple of other notes regarding compiling your own kernel:
   1) The kernel config file as shipped with Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Herron)
for some reason shipped without any sound support enabled; so if
you've tried the example from the handout and found that sound
didn't work afterwards, that's why. :-/ What can I say, they
       screwed up.
To fix it, while configuring the kernel go to Device Drivers -->
Sound --> Sound Card Support, and make it as a module and go
through all of the sub-sections and make all of the modules in
       those sections too.

   2) The settings for Processor type and features --> High Memory Support
are a little misleading. The "4GB" setting should be used if you
have > 860 MB but <= 3GB, and the "64GB" setting should be used if
you have > 3GB. Note that the "64GB" setting will turn on PAE and
set the "64-bit Memory and IO resources" setting, the latter of which
       is currently still considered experimental.

If anyone has questions please feel free to write to me directly if you
don't want to post to the list.
