Recently I learned about a new one time password system called Yubikey ( http://www.yubico.com/products/yubikey/). The Yubikey is a tiny usb device which emulates a USB keyboard, when you press it's button it spits out a long one time use password. The thing about the Yubikey which makes it of interest to MHVLUG people is the fact that Yubico (Yubikey's creator) has released all of the software and information needed to run your own Yubikey backend as open-source.
For more info check out http://www.yubico.com/products/yubikey/. The Yubikey was also covered pretty well in a recent episode of Security Now ( http://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm#143). I am currently digging into the details of the Yubikey and seeing what I can do with it and Linux. If there is enough interest in it I'd be happy to give a talk in a few months on the Yubikey and Linux whenever there's a meeting needing a topic. P.S. A few others and myself are looking at ordering a few Yubikeys for testing purposes. If anybody else is interested in joining in on the order let me know, if we get enough people we can save on shipping and get a volume discount. -- ____________________________ Sean O'Connor http://seanoc.com _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) MHVLS Auditorium Jun 4 - Sqeak! and eToys Jul 2 - KVM (Tenative) Aug 6 - Zenos Sep 3 - TBD
