I have zilch in terms of experience with this, however, if i'm looking for a
product that almost always works flawlessly with linux, i search newegg and
read reviews. doing this i have had no problems finding all my hardware, and
might i note that it all (i built my machine from scratch) works flawlessly
with ubuntu.

searching newegg.com for webcams with linux support, here are some things i
came across that had particularly good reviews for linux:

*SYBA CL-MC-GF-BK 0.35MP Effective Pixels 30 fps USB Golf Ball Design
Built-in Microphone
WebCam<http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826140018>
*

crap-o resolution, but not so bad for a $30 webcam that works with linux out
of the box. but if you're just using it to skype then i would bet that
resolution might not a big issue? three reviewers say it works great for
linux, while one reviewer did not.

however, if you are looking for a serious webcam that reports excellent
compatibility with linux, my search reveals this awesomeness for $90:

*Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 2.0MP Effective Pixels 1600 x 1200 30 fps USB
WebCam - Retail<http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104074>
*

12 reviewers who mentioned the logitech camera's linux compatibility gave
the product exclusively 4 and 5 star ratings.

again, i don't have experience with webcams, but i do have experience
looking for hardware that works nearly out of the box for linux. hope this
helps!
