Conical has just started a beta for "official" Ubuntu images for Amazon EC2. You can get more information at http://www.ubuntu.com/ec2. Relatedly if you are looking for alternate Ubuntu images for EC2 check out http://alestic.com/. It should be interesting to see what happens as EC2 and other cloud based hosting options grow.
