First off I'm not endorsing Skype as a best of bread solution, they do have a nefarious past. But I need a method of keeping in touch with some out of work collage buddies ( since they do not have land lines or full time cell plans ). I wanted to talk to them, this poses a challenge as to there are no real "easy" VoIP apps that work on Windows and Apple. So I resurrected my old Skype account and can report that the new(er) version of Skype now works ( as the old one had many issues )
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/choose/ It's not going to give you the cristal clear studo sound of Version 4.x does, but it's clearer then a phone line, and it was easy to setup my Samson C01U "Podcasting" Mic with. I'm able to now chat with my collage buddies accross platforms easly. So if anyone wants to call me, feel free, I'm as one expects gnu_joe.
