While I get your point of view, it's definitely more of a minority. Just look at how many people have switched to gmail as their primary email. :)
Ugh. Yes, I have a Gmail account, but I use that for less critical items, ones that won't have personal information (can't be sure the Gmail info gets isolated from the general Google index). I have the old BewtWeb account (that I need to eventually convert to email-only), and even when it comes to Gmail, I use Thunderbird to read and replicate that mailbox. I just treat it as just another IMAP mailbox.
