The August meeting is a couple weeks out, and I'll be giving the lecture. I have two topics prepared enough to do for this, please let me know which you'd prefer:
Topic 1: Git and distributed source code management. Git is one of the
fastest growing source code management systems, which was originally
written for the Linux kernel. It's now being used in all kinds of open
source projects.
Topic 2: Puppet, a systems management policy engine. Sound confusing?
The basics is that you write a policy for what the state of your machine
(typically a Linux server) should be in, and puppet drives it to that
state. If you've heard of cfengine, this is cfengine done in ruby, with
policy files that look like config syntax, instead of lisp. I did a
final project for college which was a puppet policy for our OpenSim
environment, which I'm actively using.
Topic 1 is more developer focused, topic 2 is more administrator
focused, though both pieces of technology can be used by mere mortals as
well to make your life easier.

There is no silver bullet. Plus, werewolves make better neighbors
than zombies, and they tend to keep the vampire population down.
