Hi everyone! This isn't strictly Linux-related, but the box in question is currently running numerous Linux distros, or would be if it was working.

I resurrected an old (2001) Gateway minidesktop to use as a second system. Yesterday afternoon, it was working properly. After dinner, I turned it on again, and it wasn't. When I press the power switch on the minitower, the power LED comes on, the floppy and CD lights flicker, but the monitor never even comes out of standby mode. The USB keyboard is apparently working, as caps lock, num lock, scroll lock toggle their LEDs, and ctrl-alt-delete reboots it. About 9 seconds after powerup, the motherboard (AMI BIOS) goes beep beep (pause pause) beep. That pattern isn't in any list I've found of AMI beep codes. I've tried unplugging and reseating cards, cables, different combinations of DIMMs, a different video card, no CMOS battery, a new CMOS battery, and nothing makes any difference. The only thing that makes a difference is that if the "clear BIOS" jumper is in the "clear BIOS" position, it only goes beep beep, no pause, no third beep. BTW this model MB is known for capacitor problems but they all look normal to me.

Would any of you happen to have any ideas what might be going on? Or maybe be able to point me toward the right direction? Thanks very much in advance!

Adam
