I sent them a SASE and got my stickers back in a couple weeks. They sent
like 4 or 5 of them.

This is my first post to the list. Was looking forward to the OCT meeting,
but something came up at home and I couldnt make it. Looking forward to
meeting some other linux users.

By way of introduction- Ive been into computers and writting programs since
I was in elementary school in the 80's. Easy to do in the Hudson Valley at
that time when IBM was a huge influence. Im a mechanical engineer and love
doing numerical analysis on computers (FEA/FEM/CAE etc). My first intro to
Linux was a friend in college who was a computer major and a big linux
advocate. Bought linux for dummies and installed linux on an old computer,
what a chore, Was interesting, had a decent X desktop, but no big advantage
to me over windows NT at the time.

A few years ago my wifes laptop crashed pretty hard. Discovered Knoppix and
was able to rescue the files off the computer. Was amazed at the
improvements in autodetecting hardware. Spent some time trying out
different liveCD distros (kind of fond of puppy). This year after my new
laptop came with Vista (on top of a new work computer with Vista and office
2007) I got fed up. It wasnt that hard and I now happily have Linux Mint as
my main boot. I carved up my disk so I have Vista, Mint 7, CAELinux(Ubuntu
8.04), Fedora 11 and some extra room to try anything else.

Looking forward to meeting everyone at the NOV meeting.
