Ok now that the subject got you here is the real problem I have. Now that Ubuntu 9.04 and after is sooo good I'm spending less and less time with other OS's at home and even more so at work. But one still needs to communicate to those outside on other OS's ( Windows and yes even OS/X ). I have gotten said people to move to Pidgin ( http://www.pidgin.im/ ) since it's latest versions handle IM/IRC/Twitter/Facebook all in one easy to use client that works the same way on all three platforms ( Linux, Windows, OS/X ).
Now to the issue, Voice, to keep in touch with these people IM and mail is ok, but there is nothing like a good conversation to really communicate. I have successfully used Ekiga ( http://ekiga.org/ ) to call other Ubuntu users ( I'm sip:[email protected] <sip%[email protected]> ) with perfect sound quality. I've also gotten Skype to work, but Skype fails to work consistently on 64 bit systems and I don't trust or like the company that now has control of the back-end system. Thus is there a SIP Softphone client for Windows Vista and OS/X that works? They have tried QuteCom, which was a total fail ending up with a blue screen on 64bit Vista, and Ekiga for Windows wile did not blow up, was not able to make a good connection. The third possibility is if someone knows of a voice communications that supersedes SIP, that I may not be aware of. Thanks for your help in advance I am Joe _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) MHVLS Auditorium Oct 7 - Glade - Linux GUIs made easy Nov 4 - Google Wave Dec 2 - MythTV Jan 6 - Git
