I am also considering this drive.

If you are using the drive for storage, I don't think you have any problems. I
plan to format with fat32 [not in xp] and use it cross platform.
I tend to use the smallest drives I can find nowadays for the os; usually one
os per box plus a rescue partition often knoppix and preferably on the
beginning of the other [storage, big] disk.
Ssds at 8gb or 16gb or even32gb are getting feasible for the os, I have a few
set up this way. Otherwise I tend to pick the smallest hd I can find, which has
gotten much more difficult since on board sata.

Can't you just reformat these drives or don't they just have a jumper
to make them 512
