TeamViewer is a great product, with reasonable pricing for folks who
do a lot of remote support. A friend of mine sprung for the lifetime anything-goes-enterprise license (like $4000 or so), because he's such a fan. But they have lots of pricing tiers that aren't too bad. This raised a big question on my part ... what if they go under? The tool needs their servers to broker the connection. The answer? The company has an insurance policy in place to pay for the servers to keep running for 10 years, in the event they go under. There's also a free-connect option for playing around - they ask you to "play nice" and use it for non-commercial use, but they're not policing it. I have one client who needs remote support about once every 18 months, and TeamViewer is what I use. Other question ... it it just a repackaging of something open-source? I don't know, but I expect they've written a lot of code, even if there's some VNC in there. Besides, this company works as a service business than a software business. They're good at the it-just-works factor, which is key. I don't really need help remoting into a machine if both people are savvy, but rather when one person has no idea what they're looking at, and the other one is trying to help remotely. Just wondering if this is re-packaged GNU software with a so called easy-to-use interface.
